I got the inspiration, to write this travelogue, from my friends who want to hear the stories with all the teeny weenie details as soon as I returned home from each sailing. I used to write long letters from the ship to my parents and my in-laws penning my varied experiences, which they enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing them. Those were the days when the turn- around time for our correspondence used to involve the waning phase of the moon for more than once. The longer the wait the longer the letter would be. With the advent of the internet, things gradually changed to one or two letters a week by email. And then came Facebook and Whatsapp which made life succinct with limited description on some pictures only. Life is so fast and hectic these days that no one has time to stop and read more than two lines. The long jokes or messages forwarded by friends on Whatsapp are only read and appreciated when one is standing in a long queue in a bank, in a passport office or a visa centre or at a bus or metro station, while most of the other queues are done away with, thanks to net banking and e-commerce.
I wrote this histoire just for such an occasion when the readers have nothing in mind in their to-do-list, when they can’t do anything else than just reading and relaxing- a travelogue to read when they are travelling!

Very enjoyable and interesting read. For a non mariner like me its an absolute delight to read the fascinating stories and get an insight to a sailor's wife and life. Apart from being hilarious it also shares knowledge about ships, ports and various cities around the world. Thanks to Meenakshi, I have taken several trips to far away seas without leaving my comfy sofa or dealing with holiday bookings, packing bags & airport queues.
